with the new kernel the screen dims down when having been inactive for a while. this is normal behaviour. unfortunately, it doesn't brighten up again when I start typing again. It remains in a dimmed down (i.e. "grayed", not black!) state.

I have the same problem on my Dell E1505 laptop. I have to power down and reboot to fix it.

This also happens to my notebook as well. This happens when I install xfce4-power-manager. It starts to dim, it never comes back to normal. I am wondering if anyone uses xfce4-power-manager? When I uninstalled the power manager, it dims and comes back to normal. I don't have to restart it.

I wish to use the power manager later on.

Update:
The problem does not exist when using icewm instead of KDE.
