i'm interested to know what aptosid users run on their phones and tablets.

right now i carry at least a 12" laptop (and a pushbutton phone) wherever i go, but i'm considering getting either a 7" tablet or a phablet, or some kind of "smart phone". I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP the control i feel i have running aptosid (i don't trust google as far as i can throw them... apple/microsoft/blackberry: you're kidding, right?).

thanks in advance for any experiences and insights you can provide me. the aptosid community has never steered me wrong!

all the best, ike.

The basic Android OS is open source as AOSP which Google release under the Apache licence. The closed source Google apps are a separate package called Gapps. There are quite a few ROMs you can put on most Android tablets or phones that may do what you want. Cyanergen Mod was a big favourite but has now gone commercial and a lot of the devs have started Omnirom as an open source project.A place to start maybe www.xda-developers.com/

Agree,

tried many custom roms/firmware. Actually i'm still using cyanogen, but will change soon (if some time's left). I have not yet decided which project will be next on my devices. xda-developers is great for information about roms, rooting and other stuff.

Maemo - As open as Nokia seemed to be able to deliver before their decline.

I have gone back to using a phone with no touchscreen, a Nokia C5.00. It's small and light, have long life battery, and everything I need on a phone, music-player and gps, so there I don't have any choice in os.

On my Nexus 7 I had cyanogen but changed to Slim bean with Slim gapps installed.

Because I hate this Google shit, normally I only use my Nexus 7 when traveling somewhere to have a lightweight device with me. You can't even download and install a free open source app like Firefox without logging in to Google Sad Sad Sad.

It would be very nice to have a tablet or phone running a real linux that I have the whole control over instead of Google controlling and spying shit.
