Hallo,
Running Aptosid i386 on my AMD laptop.
After dist-upgrade I get init running,
But stops saying
'kdm disabled by bios'.
Any idea?
Thanks! |

I'm pretty sure that you meant to write "kvm disabled by bios".
This means your CPU has support for AMD-V/ SVM, but -as the message implies- your BIOS (or UEFI) disables the option. Unfortunately many OEMs tend to default hardware virtualisation to 'off', most allow to re-enable it somewhere hidden in the advanced firmware settings - some don't…
Especially if you do use virtual machines occassionally, you need to enable AMD-V/ svm on AMD systems or VT-x/ VMX (eventually also VT-d, if supported by your CPU) on Intel systems. Enabling this setting is required for kvm to work and also other virtualisation options may gain significant performance improvements with it enabled.
[moving to the hardware subforum, as this has nothing to do with upgrading] |

Yes, I meant kvm.
It was exaustive,
I enabled virtualization in the Bios,
And there's no message anymore.
But I found that the pc is not stucking there,
It's waiting for some time.
Then it continues the boot saying:
'timed out: killing /sbin/modprobe...'
And there's another error message from Alsa
'alsactl ... No cards found'
Thank you very much! |

Yeap, this one is fine as wine uses ALSA on your system (as anything else). OSS is an older "competitor of sorts" and not really needed if you haven't special needs. |
