| I was just wondering why the above error has not need fixed, as it has been known about for a while now. And now kmenuedit is not included in the current release. Why is that? |

I'm not sure what happened kmenuedit though I suspect it used to be drawn in by a dependency which has gone away. I've just made a commit to fullstory to add it back in so it should be back in future releases.
I've not attempted to look at gparted (it's not installed on my box), apart from a quick look at the bugs.debian.org to see that they seem to think it should be fixed now (but maybe I missed something). partitionmanager does run fine here anyway. |

Hi bfree. This is a freshly installed and dist-upgraded system (installed Tuesday Jan 22, d-u on Jan 23). apt-get says policykit-1 is the latest version. I can hit alt-F2 and type gparted and it will run. To get it to run from the menu entries (there are two?!) you check the box to run as a different user, and type root as the username. And save changes of course.
Since partitionmanager is a KDE app, why is it not installed as the default instead of gparted? I have used partitionmanager several times in the past with no problems.

Hi
Gparted is launched via pkexec and that's why it's needed policykit-1.
pkexec searches for .Xauthority file under user's home. The problem is that kdm doesn't create .Xauthority file under user home. .Xauthority is created under /root. You have two options.
1) force kdm to create .Xauthority under user home
2) make a symlink for it from /root to user home.

ConvBSD, your post misses both the original problem (hint policykit-1 is already installed, but was troubled by the bug bfree quoted) - AND suggests a dangerous and useless hackaround at the same time…
Which is interesting, because the third post already explains why it happens - and how to work around it cleanly, without ugly hacks (and security implications). |

slh it seems that you have missed something.
kb0hae saed that he has a fresh d-u system at 23.01.2013.
If so he should have policykit-1 0.105-3 ( where according debian bugs the bug is fixed) and if the bug is there something's wrong.
Anyway I have rechecked today 06.02.2012 and no problem at all. |
