The last release was almost six months ago and your promised four releases every year.
Is AptoSID dead?
When will we see a new release (preferably based on Linux 3.4)? |

Aptosid is absolutely not dead! If you followed the commit logs on berliOS, you'd see multiple commits per day. Things in sid haven't lined up for release since the last one. As always, we'll release when it's ready, and not a moment sooner. |

Good, but if I try to build AptoSID myself, what problems SID currently have? |

You mean, beside the gazillion of currently running transitions with and especially without release team agreement? Or beside the occasional kernel bugs reported here? Or debootstrap unable to create a chroot? Or little stuff like wvdial failing? Or this, this or that. And that just from the top of my head… (Ignore the now fixed stuff like this which kept me busy for 2 weeks until i finally found what was wrong…)
Sure, you can paper over a lot of that by deriving from debian, but that is not a good idea in the longrun…
Just remember that Debian Wheezy freeze is in June, everyone is busy to break as much as possible before the freeze to fix it in the freeze (breakage is introduced not deliberately but just by a new upstream version usually). So at some point there will be a release, just no date yet (just like for debian itself).
btw: Tracker release team approved transitions: http://release.debian.org/transitions/ |

Looks like you are proving me right, thanks.
12.1.1 seemed to be necessary because the QA-department didn't catch everything …
(also, they have slightly different rules in regards to package inclusion, but i don't really want to argue on that level as I am an outsider who just happens to read their blogposts once in a while, so i don't know the exact rules, just that something like qt-razor wouldn't be possible here for example as we don't want to derive that much from debian)
Did you miss anything by using the current release and dist-upgrade? Probably not… |

Aptosid is well known since years for it's serious and reliable quality approach. Other distributions - including the mentioned Aptosid based fork - do follow a different approach (e.g. following a given fixed time table). It is up to the user to decide which one does better fit his needs.

Yep, a newer kernel which supports new GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD.
Currently Sidux is plain unusable on many PCs (I don't even wanna start a conversation about the fact that Sidux doesn't contain firmware which is necessary to run/drive many WiFi NICs). |

What kind of badass machine is it that that you can't even get the machine booting with a 3.1 kernel?
Graphic is pretty layered. I doubt that nothing works at all. At least vesa should work. Manual has it all.
For firmware, feel free to have a look at the firmware section of http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=new ... amp;sid=30 (It's very similar for debian btw)
(I can understand that a sidux release might not boot anymore, but i guess this was a typo) |

The current iso's can be installed but not d-u-d. So far all is stable in Aptosid. I am going to swap to alternate distros which give me support and allow to upgrade. Meaning I give up. Long time from Knoppix -> Kanotix -> Sidux -> Aptosid but done. |
