| Just installed the Windows 8 consumer preview in virtualbox. Works like a charm! But hell! Win 8 seems to have copied a real lot from KDE4 and gnome3 and some of Mac OSX. It's almost like you're using linux, only it's not. Still interesting to see that right now the opensource alternatives are way ahead. |

I hate the Metro interface though...you'd need a touch-capable monitor or use it on a tablet.
MS surely has copied a lot of stuff from Open Source  |

I agree about the Metro interface. It looks nice but it's not very intuitive. The 'hot corners' don't work very well. The little pop-up screens tend to disappear before you can click them. Also it took me a while to figure out how to close Metro apps. It turned out you need to move your mousepointer to the top of your screen where it changes into a hand and then you can drag the app down to the bottom of your screen. Not very efficient though. Clicking an 'X' is a lot faster. Well, at least ALT+F4 worked.
The Xbox software is terribly slow. Even solitaire, which I would figure is quite a light app. The weather app lacks a way to set the units to metric. The Music app refuses to connect to zune (not available in your region it says). The Map application (bing) has a search functionality but it doesn't work (yet). It couldn't even find Belgium or Washington. So, in short: a lot still needs to be fixed. But in general I found the windows 8 experience not bad at all. Finally they also adopted the app store concept which is a good thing (although stolen as well).
Anyway I find it kind of cool to be able to switch to win8 in an instant inside my linux distro. Nice for showing off. But I will definitely stick to linux as my OS of choice. |

I myself plan to have a barebones Windows VM for those things that seem to require Windows as the USB support within vBox works pretty well enough, such as reprogramming my Garmin GPS.
Windows 8 has really nothing new that interests me yet either |

And I have to update my TomTom GPS maps using Windows.
What is the inner workings of TomTom based on ? A Linux system  
Not that impressed with a basic Windows 8 installed in Virtualbox :
My free Comodo Internet Security does not install as in Windows 7 so I guess it's still early days for a lot of software. |

| Thanks a lot for your impressions! I thougt about installing a Windows XP on one partition on my PC, but then heard about Windows 8, so I was wondering whether it would be better to wait for the official version, but if theres nothing really new in it and its just similar to KDE4 or Gnome I better stay with this;-) |
