Hi gang, an X windows user here, My install was working sweet untill I thought id do an apt get update and allowed it to update the kernal. everything seems to run smoothly until it was time to reboot, all I get is Login: and a flashing cursor. Id type my login account and pass and it doesnt acknowledge. There use to be a GUI interface but that doesnt even show up on reboot. its just show all the modules being loaded and leaves me at the login promp. I booted from the aptosid cd and was able to mount the volume and see my dir but even as SU i cant change anything, is there a fix? |

when booting you can for sure choose an old kernel. then you can extract some more info as graphis card/driver tha would be interesting |

sounds like you did a distribution upgrade before upgrading your
system. reinstall and after apt-get update, do apt-get upgrade,
the do apt-get dist-upgrade. |

No. You should never do "apt-get upgrade" on aptosid.
Please read the aptosid manual. (and also "man apt-get") |

Agreed, "apt-get upgrade" can totally ruin your system, sometimes fixable, but not recommended, especially for "newer" users |
