I recently installed aptosid-2011-02-imera-xfce-amd64-201107131632.iso on a new laptop and encountered some odd behavior with the installer.
I booted the cd and then went into a shell to clear the drive. It had windows 7 on it so I used cfdisk to delete all the partitions, then added 4 primary partitions.
When I started the installer, the drop-down list for root partition and the list of partitions were both empty - there was no way to install. So I quit the installer and formatted sda1 manually with ext3. Then when I restarted the installer it saw the formatted partition (but still didn't list the other three). Installation worked okay.
So in my case it seemed to have trouble seeing unformatted partitions. |

This is how it behaves, it only offers filesystems. If you use the gui partitioning tool from the installer it wants to format partitions by default which would stop this confusing people. |

Now what does this mean?
Maybe I shall know in a day or two when I install aptosid on the incoming new laptop for my daughter. |
