If I might, without disrespecting anyones work,
would you PLEASE try to keep the walls clean ?... as in no sick, emo, gothic, no vampires and no monsters either ?
That 3 part comics with the car thing was the work of a genius... but this tree or whatever in the last release's default wall, it's like meduza's head, or some tatoo. I browsed around for other walls on the forum and it's just dark and occult... is this the new trend now ?
I have nothing against the logo, scorpions and stuff, i'm not being absurd... be creative, be mean, be agressive, be masculin, be whatever... but is everybody on the art-board watching horror movies all day ? It's just not cool.
Does anyone feel the same ? just curious... |

+1
I think most people will change their wallpaper as one of the first steps, but its the thing you first recognise when starting the bootable CD/DVD when you want to help someone or show aptosid.
Most people associate the gothic/vampires/whatever look with some 12 year old boy which reached puberty some weeks ago
I dont want to offend anyone from the arts-team, but a more clean wallpaper with just the logo/text would be way better for the first impression. |

If you look at the history of our art work, you will see that our art team did a fine job to present always something new 4 times a year, while keeping some consistent recognizability. After all, art is really a matter of personal taste. Add that just very few people actually do the work in our art team, the results are impressing.
I am using aptosid since many years in corporate settings, and never had the feeling that I should hide the default art work.
Greetings,
Chris |

The main point is you can't win them all, no matter what you do people will complain. The good news is it's easy to change your machine to whatever you like.
Personally I don't see "sick emo dark occult gothic monster vampires" in the current wallpaper and I generally never bother to change the wallpaper (except perhaps to preview future wallpapers).
As for a "clean wallpaper with just the logo/text" that would make for a very boring impression which I think would only be suitable only for business perhaps where bland/banal/dull is a virtue (which imho is not very fitting to aptosid).
Finally the artwork for the next release is already available so don't expect any words now to make any difference to it. |

The art team does a fine job. Don't see any monsters -ok, except Fred may be, but that is one I really don't want to miss.
Thanks for that.

Why complain about the wallpaper when it is easy to change? I have not always liked the aptosid/sidux wallpapers/login/splash screens. So I learned to change anything I didn't like. Its not hard to add an aptosid logo to your favorite photo and use that for your wallpaper. |

Wow, I like the artwork, and don't see a monster or Medusa or anything else. Too much late night tv? Now, my avatar is a man-eating lobster from a very early map. The cartographer must have thought he was a monster sea-creature, apparently. Fred is mild by comparison. The Ημέρα wallpaper rocks, too. It might well be my favorite to date. |

@slam. Thanks a lot for the link.
...Well, my first contact with sidux/aptosid was moros. And moros had a nice clean wall. Apate and even geras was more complex. Honestly, geras impresses too... for it's full of little details, but it's not crowded or chaotic. They are all valuable. But it's not the history, it's just this last wall, and other walls you'll find here on this forum I was talking about...
I now googled gothic tree, just for curiousity, and you'll see clear similarities... The +1's above also confirm me.
Yes, i know it's changeble. Still... I am not complaining. I am suggesting. I thought users have a vote in the open source world...

- Totally agree. Therefor, I would go with apate and geras' aproach. Smart, complex, hires, low-level-detail - Just keep the devil out of it |

Also, this red-black-silver colour theme already pushes things towards the dark side. But it's not the colors, it's what you do with them. And this tree... just does it. |

generally arguments over art degrade into bike-shed colouring shouting fests, so i'll stay out of that one. but as the primary artist for all releases since (and including) hypnos, i can tell you that any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
as to the two bits that i quoted ...
we don't/can't/won't tell our loving users how to design wallpapers for themselves and provide this forum to allow them to share their work with others. if you're not a fan of the artwork posted in this forum, then post some yourself.
yes, users absolutely do have a vote in the open source world. go back about a year and half and i was "just" a user myself. i initially "voted" with discussion in the forums, then joined the -art irc channel, and eventually "voted" with contributions and have been doing so ever since. if this is something you truly care about, then hop on in to #aptosid-art and lets talk about it. |

More like a scorpion. And the eyes look not friendly in my mind. But no problem with that.
I like the tree theme, i cant see any occult or devil therein. |
