Interesting distrowatch article on design including a critique of aptosid website theme:
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue ... #interview
Quote:
Technical enthusiasts tend to downplay the role colours and placement have in our lives, preferring to focus on behind-the-scenes capabilities, but it's hard to deny white text on a fuzzy background, white text on a clear background and tiny black text on a white background will invoke different feelings.
BTW aptosid is the "tiny black text on a white background" |

At least the author let enough room for interpretation with his wording - Personally, I had serious issues to coincide my expectations given by the authors extreme descriptions with the actual website layouts he linked. "White text on a clear background" certainly is not what I would associate when looking at the Fedora site.
In his interview then, he focuses on the designs included in the respective distro, not a word on the website design anymore.
I dont know, does not feel like a consistent and competent article to me. Introducing an interview implying, to me at least, linked 3 distros have flawed arts in regard to their websites (while already this made me wonder), whereas he aims at OS interface design in his actual article. That is definitely a text I would not recommend to read, and by far not because I was a fanboy of aptosid arts. |

It looks like I didn’t really want to read the article again. I really like the website design and it is just simple but clear. Easy to navigate and easy to use not just like some website that is full of designs and can’t find the right way to use them. |

My word
The website is very lightweight and easy to use and has a certain style, too.
I can open it on every device I want without having to wait for the website being downloaded or having displaying failures.
And that's the result of the fact that the website disclaims the use of complex graphics (for example using 156 Gradients in the website design needs the use of pictures, which need to be downloaded again and cost time and can cause displaying failures on some browsers[depends on how the site programmed]) and instead uses simple, but stylish colors (CSS) which have a size of approx. 2 Bytes. |

I think it is better to just be a fan of aptosid arts. That webpage could have some great work on its arts. Anyway, the aptosid arts are really good thing for everybody here. |

Some of us have trouble with the very common black text on white/light backgound on many web pages. I have solved this by over-riding the default settings in Iceweasel/Firefox and Icedove and using white/light colored text on a black or dark background. This is easily done. Some of my friends have done the same after using my computers. Font and font sizes are also easily changed. Many may not realize that it is possible to do this type of thing.
I am not trying to disparage anyone's web design, though I hate to see web sites use flash and/or scripts when they are not needed. |
