Yes I understand that I posted on siduction yesterday asking if I changed my repros from aptosid to siduction would it work.

Thanks for trying to help me, I will just have to bite the bullet and do a clean install, this is my main PC it is a wonder it has gone this long before breaking.

Just in case any dev actually reads the forum the error message with the new kernel is
dmesg | grep -i firmware
