Has anyone tried Plasma Mobile? It looks attractive, the video intro shows a lot of functionality already on a Nexus 5. I would like to test this on a tablet, but am not sure if it will run properly on any tablet right now. The only Android device I have access to currently is an Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T, which can run Ubuntu Touch. I'm also open to purchasing another tablet. It would be fun to get ahold of a Nexus 5 to try this out, as well.

While I have no idea how well plasma-mobile performs, the bigger problem will be to hunt down all the drivers needed for your hardware. Especially the small things like touchscreen drivers, unfortunately these devices are less following the x86/ linux mantra of pretty much being generic devices, but rather the arm/ android one where every device is its own special snowflake with heavily guarded driver blobs.

As sad as it sounds, you might have a better chance to buy an x86 tablet shipping with windows in order to install linux. Hardware like that at least has the basics of how to boot the device sorted (just like any other x86 system, with 32 bit UEFI on a 64 bit CPU being the biggest 'problem'), but even there the big issues remain touchscreen (might get very difficult), wireless (should be fixable), audio (depending on the actual x86 SOC this might get very tough) and video (anything more than 2d VESA graphics might get tough, as some specimens went with PowerVR - for which no good solution exists) drivers...

If you think this sounds bad already, multiply the problems of most armhf designs by at least a factor of 10 - because there the mere task of getting the device booted (without actually supporting the 'optional' hardware like video, sound, wlan or touch) at all might be like fighting windmills.
