Hi,

since Kernel 4.9 i got the problem that my machine does not shutdown or reboot. Hangs in the halt and still power is on. Either hard switchoff or reset button needed to end up the way i wanted.
Waited for standard debian 4.9 kernel, but it has the same problem.

Worked without problems on 4.8 Kernels and still does with these kernels. No Hardware was changed. No errors on startup is shown. No errors in shutdown sequence is shown. No errors in logging files or journalctl.

So please, need some advice on how to get better logging or any other idea how to get the reason for this error found.

That doesn't happen on any of the quite diverse hardware I've tested so far, so some more details would be needed.

Little change since using 4.9.0-4.slh.1-aptosid-amd64:
now when trying to poweroff the machine reboots, but does not power off.

Ok,

helped myself. Maybe it helps somebody too.

Problem is the radeon driver. According to https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=192271 i added 'radeon.dpm=0' to kernel commandline, don't forget to update-grub

I'm still interested in how to get more detailed logs on shutdown, please.

Hmm, that is a strange behaviour I don't see with several radeon graphics cards over here (albeit pretty old ones).

Hi

story goes on. Now when i use kodi, starting a video, the complete machine hangs. Only solution is reset button. does not react on Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or C-A-Del or whatever.
So switched to radeon.dpm=-1 (=auto). Will test now the shutdown.

as expected same behaviour. Machine reboots with reboot or power off.
But as I like watching videos, i'll live with the switchoff by hand or using 4.8 Kernel.
If you're interested in further investigation, i will test.

since Version 4.9.0-6.slh.1-aptosid-amd64 computer powers off and reboots as expected.
