Hello,
I am wondering, why other distributions have in their Firefox close buttons in right position (closebutton value 0) and our Iceweasel not.
Sadly I can't setup this close buttons to right postions in fll.conf, so is it possible to release Iceweasel with right positioned close buttons in next release 2013-01?
Regards

Thankfully it is (services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.tabs.closeButtons). The default is 3 currently.
I know that this was different at times, but it was always my preferred option for it. Depends on your use-pattern of course, but here is mine. (Not that I would make the rules, we just keep upstream-defaults as long as it is not absolutely necessary to change them as mother Debian does it, too)
If your mouse is over a tab you can close it easily with a middle click (or rightclick -> close tab), but if it is not it is way easier to reach a fixed button in an display-border rather than one someone in the middle of the display (as one side is fixed you can move in the general direction rather than make a targeted move).
Oh, and did I mention that it is way easier to close multiple tabs this way… |

I think it's browser.tabs.closeButtons
So you'd be looking for a way to include Iceweasel with a custom config file in your own spin of the distro. I guess that would mean creating your own package and trying to give that priority over Debian's.
edit: I shouldn't start about tabbing in Firefox/Iceweasel but anyway: I can recommend Tree Style Tabs |

DonKult: Your English is so powerfull!
Joke: of course it's depends how the user like it. Me not, because I close the buttons on my own way: default 0
Hmmmm, I will look someday how to create own Iceweasel package and than own repo for building ISO.

You know, in my head this made perfect sense, but somewhere between mind and autocomplete/-correction it broke … (I will use my ultimate self-defense weapon here [beside my signature of course]: I am a dyslexic, so while misspellings are usually prevented by software, misplaced/missing words are usually not covered). It should read more like something along the lines of "[…] but if it is not, it is way easier to reach a fixed button on a display-border rather than one somewhere in the middle of nowhere (aka display) […]". (JFTR: that is a common design-principle and the reason why applications move their tabbars to the top, Mac users have their menu at the top-display-border, Windows has its Start-button in bottom-left-edge – and in general stuff you are supposed to access with the mouse quickly found around the borders/edges)

No need to, have a look at the xdg-browser-launcher package in the aptosid archive. Specifically the included /usr/share/xdg-browser-launcher/xdg-browser-launcher.js which sets beside of the default homepage also the default value for the close-buttons as an aptosid tweak, but as said, I agree that close on every tab is a bit silly as a default … (what is upstream thinking…).
(even if I learned today that iceweasel as well as chromium have a delayed tab-resize after closing a tab. That is actually nice if you think about it that way … and I wondered if that is a bug before …)
Haven't looked to deeply into iceweasel configuration management itself, but I bet you can even create your own polix-configuration package and drop files here and there to get what you want. |
