I am running a new Dell Inspiron 620 i3core 4GiB.
I currently have about 10 different linux distros running on 2 machines. but I have never seen a distro as resistant to installation as Aptosid. I have wasted the whole afternoon, 5 new CDs, and formatted and loaded a key dozens of times and I cannot get anything but a black screen from Aptosid. That iso post processor is a big mistake. I renders your OS unusable. Why only offer such a thing? All you have to do is leave thr iso alone like 99% of other distros. A dvd doesn't cost as much as 5 cds, so it doesn't save me a thing. Obviously, I am angry now. I may try again later. But probably wait until a plain old iso is offered.

Reading between the lines I think that you may have burned the ISO incorrectly.

It is vital, due to the high compression technology we use, to burn DAO.

It wouldn't be if you quit using "high compression technology", which is a backward step in installation technology.

Neither of my burners, xfburn or Brazero, allow that option. Futhermore, the lowest possible selection of speed is 16x.

I did this on both Xubuntu and Mint Debian XFCE..

That is interesting, piper. I'm going to have to look at it further.

For an install, I've always just copied the .iso with cat or dd to a small USB stick. I'm at just about 8 minutes from completed download to completed install.

never met a linux distro so easy to install. very fast and straight forward.
maybe some machines are doing it more difficult ? i remember having trouble booting
aptosid (or maybe sidux) on a laptop, once or twice...
for my concern dell machines have always accepted to boot aptosid (i have three
of them, different generations)
