I used sidux for a while a couple of years ago but ended up with Scientific Linux for most of the time since. I had to change to a Debian-based distro for work reasons recently though, and eventually wound up back here.
I just wanted to give a massive thumbs up to the aptosid team, as this release (2011-3) is head and shoulders above the alternatives in my opinion. Kubuntu 11.10 suffered loads of graphics crashes on my hardware (HD3000), even after installing various different development X and driver packages. Both Debian releases - Squeeze and Wheezy - contained packages too old to support anything like the resolution supported by my hardware, and badly handled various function keys, with poor touchpad settings and suchlike. I tried newer kernels from liquorix and elsewhere, but always ended up with annoying problems. aptosid just worked though; I installed it, config'd it and it's worked perfectly since.
Well done everyone on producing an excellent and very underrated OS! |
