Personally spoken, I love VLC, it is one of the first apps I install on every machine.
However, our general team approach with KDE releases is to pick already existing KDE apps with priority, if they do the job as expected. Just in case a KDE app is buggy, not mature or missing, we will put in alternative apps - or write our own ones. This happened several times in the past, and will happen again.
In this case we ship Kaffeine, wich is doing pretty well, so - no reason to change that.

| In W$, I use VLC. Prefer it to the W$ Media Player. |

| I'm just now downloading the aptosid iso so I'm not a user yet, but isn't **removed** required to do video previews from Konqueror anyway? **removed** is great and Qt based as well. I see no point in requiring any gtk libraries by default (if such isn't already the case). |

| in the default kde-lite install, we require no gtk libs and though the qt4 version of vlc would not require any, we're trying to keep kde-lite as lite as possible ... just because we knocked a few MB off the ISO size with a new compression scheme doesn't mean we need to immediately fill them with more "awesome" software. vlc (and any other multi-media player worth talking about) is and always will be only an apt-get install away. |
