I am new to aptosid. i just read about it and am about to check it our.
is it only my impression or is this really a six legged scorpion in the logo?

Yeah, it's true, but you are not the first one who has recognized that 
That story reaches back to the old times of sidux Aithir where the scorpion first appeared.
